- Peel, core, and dice the apples into 1/4-inch cubes, tossing them in lemon juice to prevent browning.
- Coat the diced apples in sugar and let them sit for at least 2 hours or overnight to macerate.
- In a large pot, combine the macerated apples and cranberries. Cook over medium-high heat, stirring until the cranberries burst and the mixture thickens (8-10 minutes).
- Ladle the hot jam into sterilized jars, leaving about 1/4 inch of headspace.
- For canning, submerge the jars in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes (15 if above 6,000 feet) and let them cool completely.
