Step-by-Step Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add 1 pound of ground beef, breaking it apart as it cooks until browned, around 5–7 minutes.
- Add 1 chopped onion and cook for 3–5 minutes until softened. Stir in 2 minced garlic cloves and cook for 1 additional minute.
- Sprinkle 1 packet of taco seasoning mix over the beef and onion mixture. Pour in ½ cup of water, stir, and simmer for 5–7 minutes until thickened.
- Warm 8 corn tortillas in a dry skillet over low heat for about 30 seconds per side. Pour 1 cup of vegetable oil into a deep pan, heating to 350°F.
- Fry each tortilla in hot oil for 15–20 seconds on each side until golden brown and crispy. Use tongs to shape them into taco shells.
- Fill each crispy shell with the savory beef mixture, top with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and shredded cheese.
- Serve hot, allowing additions like sour cream, salsa, and chopped cilantro.
