Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add 1 pound of ground beef, breaking it apart as it cooks until browned, around 5–7 minutes.
  2. Add 1 chopped onion and cook for 3–5 minutes until softened. Stir in 2 minced garlic cloves and cook for 1 additional minute.
  3. Sprinkle 1 packet of taco seasoning mix over the beef and onion mixture. Pour in ½ cup of water, stir, and simmer for 5–7 minutes until thickened.
  4. Warm 8 corn tortillas in a dry skillet over low heat for about 30 seconds per side. Pour 1 cup of vegetable oil into a deep pan, heating to 350°F.
  5. Fry each tortilla in hot oil for 15–20 seconds on each side until golden brown and crispy. Use tongs to shape them into taco shells.
  6. Fill each crispy shell with the savory beef mixture, top with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and shredded cheese.
  7. Serve hot, allowing additions like sour cream, salsa, and chopped cilantro.
