Steps
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine brown sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, salt, and ¼ cup of water or apple juice. Cook for about 3-5 minutes until thickened.
  3. Add peeled and sliced apples to the saucepan, stirring to coat. Cook for another 3-5 minutes until slightly tender.
  4. Pour the apple mixture evenly into the greased baking pan.
  5. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, white sugar, baking powder, and a pinch of salt. Gradually stir in the milk and melted butter.
  6. Dollop and spread the biscuit batter over the top of the apple filling.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 38-40 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Remove from the oven and let cool for at least 15 minutes before serving.
