Steps
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine brown sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, salt, and ¼ cup of water or apple juice. Cook for about 3-5 minutes until thickened.
- Add peeled and sliced apples to the saucepan, stirring to coat. Cook for another 3-5 minutes until slightly tender.
- Pour the apple mixture evenly into the greased baking pan.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, white sugar, baking powder, and a pinch of salt. Gradually stir in the milk and melted butter.
- Dollop and spread the biscuit batter over the top of the apple filling.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 38-40 minutes until golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for at least 15 minutes before serving.
