  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar can substitute with honey
  • 1/4 cup reduced sodium soy sauce regular soy sauce can be used but adjust to taste
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil vegetable oil can replace it
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red-pepper flakes adjust according to spice tolerance
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger fresh ginger can be used
Beef Bowl
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil any neutral oil like canola will work
  • 4 cloves garlic use fresh for best results
  • 1 pound ground beef substitute with ground pork, chicken, turkey, or tofu as needed
  • 3 scallions green onions slice thin for garnish
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds optional garnish

Preparation Steps
  1. In a small bowl, whisk together brown sugar, reduced sodium soy sauce, sesame oil, crushed red-pepper flakes, and ground ginger until smooth. Set it aside.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Add ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook for 3-5 minutes, crumbling as it browns until fully cooked.
  4. Pour the sauce mixture over the cooked ground beef, stirring well to ensure everything is coated evenly. Simmer for about 2 minutes.
  5. Stir in thinly sliced green onions and cook for an additional minute.
  6. Serve immediately over freshly cooked rice or in lettuce wraps, garnished with sesame seeds and additional green onions.
