Step-by-Step Instructions
- Activate the Yeast: In a medium bowl, combine ½ cup of warm milk, 2 tablespoons of sugar, and 2 ¼ teaspoons of instant yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- Mix the Dough: In a large bowl, whisk together 4 cups of flour and 1 teaspoon of salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture, ½ cup of condensed milk, 1 egg, and 3 tablespoons of softened butter. Stir until a shaggy dough forms, then knead for 8-10 minutes.
- First Rise: Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl. Cover and let rise for 30-45 minutes until doubled in size.
- Shape the Dough: Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf or buns. Let rest for 15-20 minutes.
- Apply Egg Wash & Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Whisk together 1 egg yolk and 1 tablespoon of milk for the egg wash and brush over the dough. Bake for 25-30 minutes.
- Cool & Serve: Let the bread cool for 10 minutes in the pan, then transfer to a wire rack. Slice and serve warm.
