- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly.
- Shape the meat mixture into patties, approximately 1 inch thick.
- In a large skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Brown the patties for about 5 minutes on each side.
- Sauté chopped onions and sliced mushrooms in the same skillet for 5–7 minutes.
- Pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, stirring to combine. Simmer for 3–5 minutes.
- Return the browned patties to the skillet, spoon some gravy over them.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
- If desired, add shredded cheese during the last 5 minutes of baking.
- Serve hot with your choice of sides.
