Method

Step-by-Step Instructions for Tofu Katsu
  1. Start by draining the firm tofu and pressing it to remove excess moisture, then slice the tofu into even pieces, about half an inch thick.
  2. Set up a dredging station with flour, plant-based milk, and breadcrumbs. Coat each tofu slice in flour, dip in milk, and coat with breadcrumbs.
  3. Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat, then gently lay the breaded tofu pieces in the pan, frying for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  4. Prepare your tonkatsu sauce by combining soy sauce, ketchup, and mirin in a bowl, or set aside store-bought sauce.
  5. Transfer the fried tofu to a paper towel-lined plate, then serve with tonkatsu sauce drizzled on top or on the side for dipping.
