- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Bake puff pastry for 12-15 minutes until golden brown, then let cool completely.
- Warm whole milk in a saucepan over low to medium heat for 3-5 minutes.
- Whisk together sugar, egg yolks, and cornstarch until smooth, then gradually add warm milk.
- Pour mixture back into saucepan and stir constantly over medium heat for 5-7 minutes until thickened.
- Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Layer one sheet of puff pastry in a baking dish, spread custard over it, then top with another sheet.
- Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours to set.
- Dust with powdered sugar or glaze before serving and slice with a sharp knife dipped in hot water.
